A local citation service builds and corrects your business listings across online directories so your name, address and phone number match everywhere Google checks. We do it manually — 25 to 500+ listings per location, existing records claimed rather than duplicated, and every live URL handed back to you. Listings are created in your own name, so they remain yours whether or not you keep working with us.
Why local citations move the map needle.
Google's local ranking algorithm looks for consistency and volume — if your business name, address, and phone number appear correctly on high-authority platforms, Google reads that as a trust signal. More consistent citations = more confidence = higher local pack position.
The inverse is also true: conflicting NAP data across the web confuses Google's entity matching. Even a different phone format across 20 directories is enough to suppress your ranking. We fix the noise first, then build the signal.

Volume depends on your country: the US supports up to 1,000 listings, the UK around 300, Canada and Australia 250–300, and most other markets up to 100. See the capacity table before picking a tier — if you order above your market’s ceiling we will move you down and refund the difference rather than pad the count.
How many citations your country supports.
Citation volume is not one number — it depends on how many real directories exist in your market. We build every legitimate listing available to you and stop there, rather than padding a count with dead directories to hit a package number.
| Country | Listings we can build | Largest package | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | 25–1,000 listings | 500+ (and up to 1,000 by quote) | The deepest directory ecosystem in the world — national platforms, data aggregators, state and city directories, plus a dense niche layer for most industries. |
| United Kingdom | 25–350 listings | 300+ | A strong national layer (Yell, 192.com, Thomson Local and the trade bodies), but far fewer regional directories than the US, so quality runs out sooner. |
| Canada | 25–300 listings | 300+ | Solid national coverage including the bilingual directories, which need consistent French and English NAP data to count as one entity. |
| Australia | 25–300 listings | 300+ | True Local, Yellow Pages AU, Localsearch and the ABN-verified layer — verification adds trust, but caps how many listings are worth building. |
| Other countries | 25–100 listings | 100 | Most other markets support a national core plus an international layer. We build every legitimate one available rather than padding the count with directories nobody reads. |

Citation building — FAQ.
Everything you need to know before getting started.
What is a local citation?
A local citation is any online mention of your business's Name, Address, and Phone number (NAP). Citations appear in directories, apps, maps, review sites, and social platforms. Google uses the consistency and volume of these mentions as trust signals when deciding where to rank you in the Local Pack.
How does citation building improve my Google Maps ranking?
Google cross-references your business information across hundreds of sources. When your NAP is consistent and appears on high-authority platforms, Google gains confidence that your business is legitimate and established — this directly improves your chances of ranking in the top-3 map pack for local searches.
How many citations does my business need?
It depends on your market and competitors. On average, local businesses in competitive markets have 80–120 citations. We benchmark your current count against your top 3 local competitors and build toward a number that gives you a structural advantage, not just an arbitrary target.
How many citations can you build for my country?
It varies by market, because the number of real directories does. In the United States we can build from 25 up to 1,000 listings for one business. In the United Kingdom the ceiling is around 300, and in Canada and Australia roughly 250–300. Most other countries support up to about 100, combining the national directories with the international layer. If you order a package above your market's ceiling we will tell you before taking payment and move you to the tier that fits, rather than padding the count with dead directories.
What is NAP consistency and why does it matter?
NAP = Name, Address, Phone. Even minor inconsistencies — '123 Main St' vs '123 Main Street', or different phone formats — confuse Google's entity matching algorithm. Inconsistent NAP is one of the most common reasons a well-optimised GBP still underperforms in map rankings.
Do you build citations manually or use software?
Everything is submitted manually — including the major data aggregators. A trained analyst fills in each submission by hand; we never use bots, bulk tools or automated software. What IS automatic is what the aggregators do next: it's their function to push your verified record onward to navigation systems, apps and hundreds of downstream directories. So one careful manual submission at the aggregator level multiplies across the web — that's the aggregator working as designed, not automation on our side.
How long does it take to see results?
Citation cleanup changes are often indexed within 2–4 weeks. Ranking movement typically begins showing within 30–60 days. Data aggregator changes propagate to downstream directories over 60–90 days. We provide a tracking report so you can see the citations live as they go up.
What about citations for service area businesses (no physical address)?
SABs (Service Area Businesses) have a specific set of directories that accept them — platforms that allow a service area without displaying a street address. We include a curated SAB directory list on your build and handle the address-suppression settings on each platform correctly.
Can you fix citations my previous agency built incorrectly?
Yes. Citation cleanup is often the first thing we do. We audit your existing listings, claim unclaimed ones, correct errors, remove duplicates, and suppress any that can't be corrected. We then fill gaps with new, accurate submissions.
Will I own the citation listings?
Always. We either create listings under your own email/login or transfer them to you immediately. We never hold citations in agency-owned accounts — every listing is yours.
Is citation building a one-time job or ongoing?
The initial build is one-time. But citations drift over time — data aggregators overwrite correct info with outdated records, and new directories appear. We also offer ongoing drift monitoring and periodic refreshes to keep your NAP locked in — just ask.
